Crypto Lab -- Secret-Key Encryption

Overview

The learning objective of this lab is for students to get familiar with the concepts in the secret-key encryption. After finishing the lab, students should be able to gain a first-hand experience on encryption algorithms, encryption modes, paddings, and initial vector (IV). Moreover, students will be able to use tools and write programs to encrypt/decrypt messages.

Tasks (PDF)

  • VM version: This lab has been tested on our SEED Ubuntu-20.04 VM
  • Lab setup files: DO NOT unzip the file in a shared folder, as that would cause problems. Copy the zip file to another folder inside the VM, and then use the unzip command to unpack.
  • Manual:: Docker manual

Time (Suggested)

  • Supervised (closely-guided lab session): 2 hours
  • Unsupervised (take-home project): 1 week
